The World Will End Tomorrow -- Or Not.

Timely Reminder & Cartoon: The world will end or “the rapture” will happen tomorrow, May 21, 2011. Then again maybe not...

Radio preacher, Harold Camping made this startling prediction that was much written and talked about at the beginning of the year. (I posted the headlines* back in January and I also did a post about it in March.) Startling stuff—But Camping also has a history of making such stunning claims. Back in September of 1994, Camping and dozens of his gullible followers gathered in their Sunday best, awaiting Christ's return. Camping had been promising for a couple of years to everyone that would listen, that the return of Jesus would be on that day and that it would be the end of the world. It didn't happen of course; just like all the other would-be prophets before him. I've got a copy of The Complete Prophecies of Nostradamus that claims that in 2007 the dead will rise again, ("the rapture"); I'm pretty sure that didn't happen.

To be more precise about the end of the world date that this cult is guaranteeing or at least this time round: May 21st will be the date of rapture and then the rest of humanity will endure exactly 53 days of death and horror before the world ends on October 21st, 2011. Hmmm—depending on how you count that could mean that it’s actually October 22nd....(In any event that little detail about October being the definitive END date had been left out in all the reports I read in January – the additional detail comes from the March CNN reports on this story.)

Crunch and divine the numbers any way you like -- But tomorrow is going to be just another day in 2011. I predict that when I wake up on the 21st of May, the world won't have ended and that "the rapture" won't have taken place either.

Thus concludes this post and my postings for this week. I'll see you next week.

* Sadly, the AP pulled their story as they so often do after a time.
